We used to just have Syrian hamsters when I was little but now in our local pets at home we can get all colours of Syrians, Chinese, Russians and Roborovski's.

Can you get guinea pigs?

Aww that's a shame.
If you clean them at least once or possibly twice a week they won't do.

She's beautiful. She really reminds me of my Misty who I lost in July. That's why I suggested Misty!

But we have rattys and I have nine. I think they have hammys on the other side of Australia but.
Apparently (just googled it) it is because hamsters are considered an "Extreme threat" to the environment if they were to escape and start a wild colony. Clearly it was thought out - wild boars are only considered a "serious threat". So if you see a hamster coming towards you run, if you see a boar coming at you take a picture

P.S. here is the link I found. Amazing the number of animals on the list and the level of threat some of them are considered to be: http://www.feral.org.au/feral_docume...CListJan06.pdf

I've heard that only Chinese hamsters were banned in australia though

I don't know, but they have some weird laws over there!

Thanks for that As an Aussie I spose I should have already known that Oh well! We do have some unique and rare wildlife here so I guess they know best
I'd personally rather come face to face with a hammy than a boar
