Bad mice and good mice

As some of you will have read two of my mice were killed on halloween night, the likely murderer seemed to be a wild mouse but now I think perhaps not. Mojo mouse went missing that same night (presumed dead) then amazingly I found him the next night, with the help of Super Syd (admittedly he didn't know he was helping but thought he had found a toy). So I popped the lucky little lass back in with her sisters, about an hour later there was much squeaking and I think some squabling that I sorted out by putting them in another cage to get to know each other again.... Then Sugar and Harv both attacked poor Mojo and really meant it sooooooo Mojo was in a cage on her own and needed company. Enter Freckles and Nobby who were destined for a pet shop but have settled in really well and put the sparkle backin Mojos eyes. I will get better pics when I can but they were running around at full speed so these will have to do for now.

Freckles

Nobby

Re: Bad mice and good mice

Awww do you think it was the other mice that killed the other two then?
I did think perhaps it could be. I doubt a wild mouse would have come anywhere near your house with three cats. We certainly never saw any mice when we had cats. We don't see any now come to that but next doors have a black cat so maybe she helps out a bit.

Aww love the new arrivals. When did you get them, today?

Re: Bad mice and good mice

Hi Jazzy,we got them last night, I would never have said that Sugar or Harv would do anything like that, especially to little Danger but it certainly looks like they might be the culprits. Anyway they will live in two seperate groups now as I will have to assume that they are to blame,I can't risk it.

Re: Bad mice and good mice

A friend of mine had a whole colony of mice and almost all were killed by this one murdering mouse. He's now off in a cage on his own because he just attacks any other mice that come near him. The rest that are left are all doing well now he's been seperated.

Re: Bad mice and good mice

The same happened with my sisters chinese hamsters. They lived together happily for around a year and then one of them starting attacking the other one and she didn't seperate them soon enough and the next day she came down to one eating the other one.

Re: Bad mice and good mice

Hey hun!!

It might not be that Sugar and Harv have attacked your other mice. It could be that after being separated from Mojo, the stress of what happened and the added stress of a new cage mean that they don't actually recognise her. My mice are darlings but when I tried to intoduce Sookie to any other mice (I had intended on putting Sookie and Sherbet in the tank with the other girls) she turned on them. Even if she is out of her cage and another mouse comes near her she turns on them but she lives quite happily with Sherbet (until recently anyway!!) If you want them all to live together you will need to treat them the same way a breeder would do and reintroduce them in neutral territory and monitor them for days as females can be really sneaky - a male would just go for the kill but a female will wait until she thinks she won't be disturbed and attack. If Mojo is getting on well with Freckles and Noddy I would leave her with them and not bother reintroducing as apparently some females will kill another after weeks of living together when they have been introduced to a "new" mouse.
P.S. I need piccies!!!! And I'll speak to you on allaboutmice later!!!
