Exclamation Problems... Help!

Smirnof decided to build her nest under her water bottle...

But she caused it to leak all over her nest..

Now what do i do?

They are only a day old, so i cant touch them or the nest

I have moved the water bottle to the other end of the tank, but her nest is still soaked

I dont want to leave them for two weeks all wet, cos they'll freeze

Help Please !!!!!

Re: Problems... Help!

I dont honestly know what to say, Cept i honestly hope they'll be alright.
You could try dropping some extra bedding/toilet roll in the middle of the cage and hopefally mummy hamster will drag it to the nest which might help warm them/ soak up the damp without you having to interveen.

Good luck and hope they'll be ok, Chev

Re: Problems... Help!

She did have babies afterall! Yay!! You could try either putting toilet paper on the opposite side of the cage, then they will do what they want, or a handful of extra badding, hopefully she will get the idea, or hopefully the nest isn't too wet, then the mom can keep them warm with her body heat and fur, I hope they'll be all right!!

Re: Problems... Help!

Could you put some dry bedding in another corner in hope that the mummy might take the babies there instead and then maybe scoop all the other bedding out and throw it and put some dry stuff there?

In this situation, you can move the nest and pups.
Just make sure that you rub your hands all over the substrate and it helps to rub your hands gently over the mother.

Re: Problems... Help!

In this situation it's best to move them or they could die from cold. If the mummy trusts you it should be ok, maybe make a new nest and show her, she might understand.

Re: Problems... Help!

i would place a hot water bottle under the nest (outside cage) to dry and dry the nest out a bit and keep it warm.

the babies are only a day old and its extremly risky to move them at that age, especially when the mum isnt really use to you yet either.

i would also place some new dry bedding in the cage and hope she moves the nest.

if you wish to risk moving them all then take the chance but personally i wouldnt at this age.
