I had a house rabbit that definitely DID sleep with eyes open. He always slept under a chair in my bedroom where he could see me (in case I started dishing out Rich Tea biscuits in my sleep).
It wouldn't surprise me that animals further down the food chain, i.e. prey species, would do this.
