hi,

my sister has decided to get her kids guinea pigs for xmas as their first pets

- dont worry she loves gp's herself and knows she will be the one ending up looking after them lol

anyway i just wanted to ask - what is the best number of guinea pigs to get? she was planning on getting 2 butsomeone said you should always get an odd number of them?!!?

thanks!

Re: optimum number of g.p's?

I have two and they live quite happily together. I've always had pairs, and they've done well, but a friend of mine has always had three, and they've done well too. As long as they are correctly sexed (or neutered) and have a large enough hutch/cage, then I don't see why the number would be a problem (as long as they are well cared for!).

Re: optimum number of g.p's?

Thanks - I will pass that onto her.

I am sure she will probably end up with 2 as then the boys can choose one each.
and they will deffo be well cared for as everyone in our family love gp's. in fact we will be visiting her more often for a theraputic stroking session i am sure

Stroking GP's is so fun, I love it when they do their little chattering squeaks! 2 is a fine number, thats why we have two, so myself and my sister could pick one each remember if you get boys, they *can* fight, not all do though, my boys have been fine, so just keep an eye on them.
