Unhappy Jim is going to the vet's

Poor Jim...
I got him out of his cage to play and he jumped out of my hands...
I was stood up so he went flying to the floor, hitting the table on the way down..
He's never jumped before, i feel so guilty

He's limping now..

Just rang the vet and she said she will see him in the morning

What do i do til then? How can i make him comfortable?

dont worry its not your fault, many hamsters that havnt beeing handled much in the past will usuaully just get scared and will leap, in future its always a good idea to keep him faced to your body and when taking out of the cage cover his eyes.

i would remove any levels in the cage to keep him to one level flooring and give him quite a lot of bedding, also move his food and water closer to his bed and take out his wheel.

this should keep him off the leg as much

cool cool good idea

im sure he will be fine, its probs sprained or bruised, ive had many baby hamsters in work that have done this and they have been totally fine afterwards.

see how he is in the morning and if he still limping then get him to the vets

Re: Jim is going to the vet's

Oh no, Xander jumped out of my hands on the day I first handled him I was lucky though and he wasn't hurt, it is horrible but its an accident, he might be better tomorrow and not need the vets. Sending big hugs for you and Jim.

Re: Jim is going to the vet's

I hope he's ok... Sausage likes to leap out of my hands so I have to cup my hands over him if I'm carrying him standing up... He always seems to fall on his back somehow!

Hopefully he's just bashed or bruised his leg and will be better in the morning
