Unhappy The rat pack...

I just saw a programme on BBC1 called the rat pack... I think it's a series..

They let a terrior go after a rat and it ragged it to kill it...
Aparantly that's their job, to get rid of wild rats from people's properties
As much as i dont like wild rats, i would never hurt one

Re: The rat pack...

There was a programme a bit like that shown last year I think. What they didn't show you was that afterwards the little dogs had to be put to sleep as they caught diseases from the rats. These little dogs have it in their instincts to hunt and kill the rats without realising the danger to them.

Re: The rat pack...

I know the series you mean. The dog is very well cared for, and its one of the kindest ways of dispatching the rats.

Poisons, traps and sticky pads can cause prolonged suffering.

Its what terriers are bred for, and that little guy does a great job.

Its not to everyones taste.

I can see the need for it though. Rats just get everywhere, town, country, clean, dirty. They just dont care.

Re: The rat pack...

I love pet rats and have had them in the past, and want some more in the future, but if I had wild rats any where near or in the house I would definately want them gone and would rather use dogs or some other relatively quick method than traps where they can be trapped and not killed so they linger in pain till they eventually die or poison them which is a horrendous death and dangerous to other animals.
