Question bleeding

hi! can any one help? tonight i noticed my 5 month old female rat 'pattie' is bleeding from her vagina. i would liken it to menstration. she is otherwise fit and healthy and in beautiful condition. i cant see any cuts and it seemed only to last for an hour.?

hi! the bleeding stopped that night and she appears fit and healthy. she's not been near a buck so i have put her on baytril. the numerous vets i have visited don't seem to
know a great deal about rats, one of them actually said to me when i visited them with one of my girls ' you probably know more than me' duhhhh. i have heard that i can buy bayrtil on the internet with a vets prescription, has anyone heard of this?

Re: bleeding

Not everything can be solved with baytril. Bleeding from the vagina is usualy a sign that you need to go to a vet who knows about rats!

Re: bleeding

might be an idea to find a different vet that knows what to look for in a rodent. Baytril won't cure a tumour im afraid.

vet thinks a tumor is unlikely because of her age and good condition, she has given me 10 days supply of baytril(1ml) to treat what she believes may be an infection. has any one ever been offered anything other than baytril to treat infection? can you buy it of the internet with a vets prescription?

Re: bleeding

0.01ml is extremely low dosage for an infection of any kind. the norm is at least 0.02ml TWICE a day, depending on the weight of the rat.
tumors are more common in older rats, but can occur at any age, more likely if they have bad breeding, ie from a petshop = rodent farm usually.

an infection of what? urinary tract?
pyometra is also a possiblity, of which it can be life threatening if not treated correctly.
