Babies babies babies babies

Guess what Spike did overnight? go on you'll never guess. I'm a grandma now. lots of wriggly pink babies, sorry no pictures until she is calmer and starts leaving them more often so you'll have to be patient. Not bad eh, I've had her a week and she gives me a lovely surprise lol. Does anyone know if I should be doing anything special with her like different food or whatever.

Re: Babies babies babies babies

Ooh how exciting.

How many did she have or didn't you get chance to count them?

No better not take pictures for a few days - I did that once and the father hamster attacked three of the four babies badly and they died.

Congratulations on becoming a Grandma.

I don't think you need to give her anything different. Just her normal food and fresh water should be fine.

Re: Babies babies babies babies

I went into a pet shop last week that doesn't even sell pets and the girl was handling her and said they were giving them away, my kids were nagging to get her and my son said we would give it a good home and the shop owner said they didn't care they just wanted rid of her, so of course I took her. then I posted pics on here and someone pointed out that she had odd nipples (very big) and the rest is history, I had to rush out and get a tank for her but I was still thinking she probably wasn't pregnant, oh well at least she is through it now. Do you have any tips or advice Chinquary cos I've never done this before.

Re: Babies babies babies babies

I'm dead excited really, there isn't really anything I can do for her, but I'm terrified that I will do something wrong and she will eat her babies. Can't wait to see how many she's got though. I'll tell them auntie foxy sends her love .

Congrats

As long as you don't touch them until their fur comes through, you should be fine

Re: Babies babies babies babies

I found that the mum just took care of it all by herself. Just keep food and water topped up. Also try putting some extra bedding in near to where her nest is. If she wants it she'll move it into the nest, if not she'll just leave it. If she is going around trying to find bits of bedding from around the tank, she'll probably appreciate it. Though obviously, try to not disturb them.

If she does eat her babies, don't worry about it. There isn't really anything you can do.

When the babies are two weeks old, you can clean the tank out and handle them, though only as little as possible. When doing this, to try and freak mum out as little as possible, move half the babies, then mum, then the other half, so she isn't by herself at any point.

Hope it all goes well for you. =]

Re: Babies babies babies babies

I wouldn't risk cleaning the cage until 3 weeks of age, when the pups need to be removed
