hyper hamster?

over the past week, fred has been getting fond of her ball. all i do is pop the cage off, put the ball at the edge and he climbs in.

from my understanding they get 10-15 minutes and back in the cage. right, so i do that. but then fred goes mental and starts chewing on the bars (this is only the time she chews the bars). so i end up having to take her back out and i handle by hand for a bit but she is not too keen to sit still!

so is it ok to put her back in the ball, and if so, how long in a day is safe?

and, anyway to get her to stay still in my hands? if i let her crawl she goes off pretty quickly, and i reckon she would probably try to escape.

Re: hyper hamster?

I'm jealous! My hamsters are sooooo lazy and hate the balls!

I think its a bit rubbish that they only are allowed in there for 20 mins! I mean in the wild they would run much more than that at a time. Hamsters are explorers, and thats prob why she wants to come out all the time.

Mine don't go in them anyway. I have a playpen but my syrian is a cheeky bugger and climbs out! They are only useful for dwarves.

They overheat inside their balls, that's why it needs to be restricted. It does suck but that's life
