Re: introducing new rats to existing rats
Quote:
they are coming with a large cage so keeping them apart until they are happy with each other will be fine, I am going to ring them now and see if they are still available, got my fingers crossed ![]() |

Re: introducing new rats to existing rats
Have introduced many rats to each other over last few years - in fact last lot stayed in main cage first night with half existing rats (having managed to climb a chest of drawers) took up residence in new rats cage!

Re: introducing new rats to existing rats
Are they males or females? I've always found introducing males more difficult because they're more terretorial. Before you get them, give your existing rats cages a good clean out and give them lots of playtime together in the bath to see how they get one. I always find that once new rats have just about settled, giving them some warm bathwater to play in together is a really great way of letting them bond.
Keep an eye on them to make sure there's no blood, if they're girls there might be humping too which is usually pretty amusing. Keep them in the same cage/in cages next to eachother for the first few nights and let them play lots together. Give them treats for playing together well and it'll be fine ![]() They're beautiful rats ^_^ Peace Akai-Chan |

Re: introducing new rats to existing rats
thank you for your advice
they are males, so hopefully I can introduce them to each other, I havent had chance to see if they are tame or not yet, this might be a problem if they arent because they will see me as a threat as well as the existing rats, if you see what I mean, when I chat to the woman in a bit I will ask as many questions as possible ![]() |
