New or old cage

As some of you might know Buffy hasn't been too well, her new big cage arrives tomorrow and I'm not sure what to do. I want her to get some use out of it and I think because its mostly on one level she will be able to get around better and she isn't really using the top two levels of her cage very much any more which makes her actual living area quite small, but I am worried that with her feeling under the weather she might get upset by being moved as she has always had the same cage. I also wonder if she is bored and a new cage might give her a new lease on life. Anyone got any input or ideas about this please reply as I keep making my mind up then changing it.

Re: New or old cage

stick her in the new cage, make sure all her usual toys etc are in there, if she's having problems moving about her old smaller cage, the new room should cheer her up, and give her something to explore.

I hope she gets better soon

Re: New or old cage

Maybe try her in there during play time first. If she seems happy then leave her in the new cage. If she doesn't, then gardualy increase the time she spends in there until she's comfortable.

Re: New or old cage

Thanks, I'll try that,if she seems happy enough playing with her toys in the new cage I can bring her bed over and see if she wants to sleep in it, If not it will just take a bit longer to get her moved in,thanks for the advice.

Re: New or old cage

I agree, put her in there and see what happens!

I change my hammie cages all the time...gradually getting bigger and bigger...and my hammies always seem more active when they have new places to explore!

Re: New or old cage

That's a good idea...maybe if she is having real trouble feeling ok in there, transfer all the wood shavings and bedding from her old cage into the new one (maybe 2-3 days after you've cleaned her out so they aren't dirty, but they smell familiar)

Re: New or old cage

She's moved house to her new exclusive address, and she loves it. I put her in the penthouse bit and she wizzed through the tubes straight away, then inspected every milemetre, now she's in her wheel and she has never been in a wheel ever, even though she's always had one. Her muscles are really wasted after her illness and she couldn't climb out of her old cage but she is so excited she keeps climbing the bars of the new one, Glad I listened to everyone and went for it, whatever time she has left she should be having fun. Now I've just got to put up with the OH complaining that the hamsters are taking over the lounge. Here's some photos of the old lass.

Re: New or old cage

One last question, the two hammie cages are next door to each other, they are both girls, will they try to fight through the bars or get too stressed?
Please excuse the demolished sofa in the picture, the kids had been jumping on the cushions (luv the holidays).
