cleaning out rodents when your sick.

I'm sure when I used to take care of my mice when I was a kid that I heard you wern't ment to do it. I have a really bad viral flu at the moment and I can't remember if I'm not meant to handle them while I'm sick because it could get them sick and kill them. Would it be better for me to skip their cleaning out day and wait until I'm better to do it or should I do it now anyway? I can't remember for the life of me what I'm meant to do and I don't want to go ahead and get them sick so I thought I'd ask on here.

Thanks I'm not risking it. They can be dirty wee horrors lol! The gerbils cage isn't all that bad at all and the hamsters were done just this time last week so they should be ok. I haven't even been holding them because I'm worried it'll make them ill. Narla has been coming up to get out too I felt so bad I just don't want to get them sick!

Re: cleaning out rodents when your sick.

yep as others have said just leave them to be dirty for a bit, some rodents can catch a human cold especially rats so better to be safe than sorry
