Unhappy My mice , R.I.P :(

As some of you know i got my to mice thursday from a lady whose 2 'males' had babies.

Lime was the runt of the litter (litter of 9 , 5 girls 4 boys) And needed hand rearing, michelle didnt have the time to do it but tried her best, she took them to the vets for advice, researched she was great with her babies.

all was going well until about a week ago the litter started dying

I still took on lemon & lime though , as i wanted to try with them , lactol the lot.

But last night lemon died in her sleep, while lime was diteriorating rapidly.

I kept feeding her milk and stuff kept her warm in my dressing gown i stayed up with her all night , but at 4.23 am she fell into a forever sleep.

I dont know what went wrong eith the litter but all the brothers and sisters are over the bridge now playing together, apart from 1 girl and 1 boy left ,

Im hoping they survive for michelles sake, she was crying her eyes out when i told her, as one of her girls died.

She and i would like to know why the litter has suddenly died.

We are both heart broken , iam totally gutted as i have always wanted mice.

ALthough the time i had with them was short it was fun the first night , both messing about on the wheel, hand tamed.

I thought they would be with me for alot longer , i didnt even get any photo's they are now buried together in the ground

R.I.P Lemon & lime have fun @ rainbow bridge.
Xx

Re: My mice , R.I.P :(

Aww hun I'm so sorry, mice are surprisingly delicate little creatures, if your friend got the mum and dad from the same litter then they possibly had birth defects that you couldn't have known about. Run free at the bridge Lemon and Lime. Sending strong thoughts for the little boy and girl still with us.

Re: My mice , R.I.P :(

I'm so sorry for your loss hun I think it was probably a birth defect through severe inbreeding but it's not easy to tell

Were you supplementing them with liquid milk or powdered milk?
