urgh stupid stupid parents

my friend is going away over summer and I said i'd look after her two rats for her, which I really wanted to do....but my idiot parents said I could only have them if they stayed in the shed how pathetic! I don't want to keep them in the shed and I know my friend wouldn't be happy about them living in the shed, even if it's during summer and my mum doesn't want them in the house because they "smell" its for two weeks! get over yourself and stop being so damn houseproud!

what a pair of ar*eholes, I was really looking forward to looking after the rats, but im not prepared to do it if they have to go in the shed, and I know that's why my mum and dad said it

Are anyone else's parents this pathetic?

Re: urgh stupid stupid parents

When I lived with my parents (many years ago) I wasn't allowed hardly any pets, my dad wouldn't let me rescue a dog and it had to be pts. I think thats why I have so many pets now, my mum still gives me a hard time about having too many pets. Is there no way you can get them to change their mind when they've calmed down.

Re: urgh stupid stupid parents

Have they actually ever met any pet rats? My oh said I could look after my friend's two on the condition that she had absolutely nothing to do with them. Obviously, they won her over in a heartbeat, 'cos they were rats and that's what they do, and I barely got a look in!! Never been without fur-babies since! So maybe your friend should bring them round for an evening, in a neutral room, so your parents know what they would be letting themselves in for???

We used to have loads of pets when I was younger but for some reason, my dad's decided to completely put his foot down I think being so harsh on me for doing a favour for my friend is a bit unfair, it's not like they're going to be a permanent fixture! She's not going away until July, so i've got plenty of time to talk to them about it.
I suggested keeping them in the spare bedroom (nobody ever goes in there, its just full of spare stuff) but she seems to think that the dog will get in, even though in the year we've had him he's never managed to open the door when it's shut properly!

Little do they know, my friend is giving me a hamster over easter - so they'll have to get over the shock of that one first saying no to me is no use at all, im still gonna do it! They might as well just say yes and save all the hassle and falling out LOL

Yeah I could do, I don't think it'll work though, they're not like that and my mum doesn't like rodents with tails anyway so she wouldn't go near them in the first place. My dad isn't animal orientated at all and he wouldn't be interested in her bringing them around. They aren't the sort to be just won around by things, they're seriously not ordinary people

I just don't see what all the damn fuss is about for the sake of two weeks! And it'll be over the summer holidays so i'll be off college and in the house all day to make sure they're safe from the dog and i'll have plenty of time to keep their cage clean.

Yep

I bought a budgie and it took my dad a week to notice him....a whole week!!! I could probably have the rats for her and give them back without him even noticing!

Anyway, once I have the hamster what difference will a couple of rats make

I did that with my first pet. I just brought him home one day and my grandparents couldn't say no As long as your taking the responsibility I don't see what the problem is

Exactly, i'm not exactly gonna be asking them to look after them. They'd be in my room with the door shut so that the dog can't get in during the day, so they'll be safe and out of my mum and dad's way. The dog sleeps in my room at night but I don't think he'll bother them, he gets too comfy on my bed (I know he shouldn't sleep on my bed but he just creeps up on there when I go to sleep anyway so I don't bother making him sleep on the floor, might as well cut out the middle man!)

and the hamster is just gonna be here one day, they might not be the biggest animal fans but I don't think they'd make me get rid of it
