I recently acquired a female mouse.
She was the last one left in the pet shop so the man was more than happy to hand her to me. She's a sociable mouse and i played with her often. She was gtting REALLY fat though and i never really took any notice of it...

TODAY i came home and noticed that she had a littler of pups. I couldn't be sure but i counted at least 12 pups!

I'm so lost! I've never had baby mice before. I went back to the pet store but there's no way i can move the mother and her babies there without causing much stress as it is far away.

HOW do i raise the babies to full maturity?
HOW do i tell which are the males ( i was told to seperate the male babies after 4 weeks)

SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME! I'm totally freaking out here!

mum will do all the raising the same happened to me when i bought a rat one time 2 weeks later she had 4 baby rats lol mum rat raised them fine i just made sure that when they were old enough i started socialising them buy handling them everyday, not sure how you tell male and female mice apart but with rats its obvious but it isnt always with some animals

She is a first time mother (or so i believe) and she isn't always with her kids. I keep them in a quiet room and don't disturb them. I only open the cage to add food and water. The cage is HUGE for a single mouse and the nest is in a hollow log in the corner. Still...each time i enter, she is always wandering around some other part of the cage. I'm afraid she is rejecting her babies or perhaps not nursing them.

my female mouse was the same.,,.. put she has raised 7 healthy lovely babys .... how is your mouse doing now ???

Give her plenty of protien in the form of dog biscuits ie Bonio's or boiled eggs ill see if i can find a complete list.

As someone stay the mother will do all the rasing aslong has she get everything she needs.

Depending on how much the mother trust you, you can start holding them at 3-5 days just make sure to take the mother out of the cage rub your hand in the shavings so that you smell like the environment and only only for a small amount of time say 5-7 mins maybe.
