Re: Warning Do Not Use This On Mice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

omg how irresponsible they should always check drug data sheets before they give a drug to an animal, no matter what type of drug or animal

Even I know that i'd i've only been doing vet studies since September that guy's been at it for years!

Good on you for going to another vet. I know everyone makes mistakes, but when it's another life at risk, there shouldn't be ANY room for error, not one so simple as that.

Re: Warning Do Not Use This On Mice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, the vet did apologise. They have offered to pay for new mice. Apparently mice are "exotic animals" and as such very hard if not impossible to treat so I could be risking their lives with any treatment that I every use on them. No offer of the £30 the check up or treatment cost to be refunded. I have thankfully been able to find a new vet that I will be using in future, the receptionist on the phone is a qualified veterinary nurse and even she could tell me that the medicine was too strong and that the vet should not have used it.

Getting new mice. Still miss my little babies though
Thanks for all the hugs!

Lots of it. The vet decided that the mice had mites and gave me drops - Xenex Ultra - and said one drop would be enough. Having done my research, and trusting my vet as any normal person would, I gave the drop to each of my mice. Within forty minutes I was rushing back to the vet at 70 miles an hour. Two of my mice died on the way to the vet and the vet put the other one down on the spot because she was in so much pain. And what made it worse was that Boo was pregnant. They started taking serous convulsions - almost like watching an epileptic or some one going into anaphylactic shock. Turns out the medicine was the one only to be used on rabbits and large rodents like guinea pigs, so it was a major overdose. Please, please, please check online or on the forums before giving a mouse medicine. I won't be making the same mistake ever again. Needless to say that I am finding another vet for my new meeces. One who will at least check things out before giving me a medicine.

Sob!! I miss my mice!! I was so upset!!!
Thats really sad & how upsetting for you to go through. You will find that a lot of vets rush there work & dont take the time to check in the books they have for the right dose to give small rodents. Then you will find vets who dont have the first clue about small rodents & sometimes the bigger rodents but these are people we are putting our trust in to take care of our pets when there ill but you end up not trusting what they say sometimes.

We are very lucky we have a brill vet called Sharon she works at Littlecroft vets in Ellesmere Port, we will only see her as we trust her 100%, she always makes the time for us & always makes time for our animals.

We are really sorry for you that you have lost your mice in this way.

Ian & Carol

Holy, wow, lesson learned. That's just awful, that vet should loose their job, seriously. And a pregnant mouse too? As a mouse lover with 40+ mice under my care I'm just horrified.
