Re: Rat Cages

Hi there,

There are alot of cages available to buy and they are all fairly good, make sure you get something with a narrow bar. My ratties got out of the cage that is suitable for rabbits and guinea pigs, even though fully grown they proved that they can really get through any gap!

Also it depends on how much you wish to spend, for a 3 tiered cage I would highly recommend the Jenny cage, suitable for up to 3 to 4 rats and would prove to be wonderfully spacious for 2 rats.

The retail price is around £94.00 from places like PETS AT HOME, if this too costly I would suggest looking on ebay.

Hope you find something you like.

Re: Rat Cages

My Jenny cage bars broke and they rust rather easily. The plastic shelves that came with them wer grand for a few weeks but the thread on the plastic screws that held them on cross thread when all four rats got on one level. Sure we replaced the screws, twice, but by that point the bars were disgusting and broke in several places. I've spoken to other people who've had them and they had similar complaints. It's a fair wad of cash for a cage that you will have to replace.

I bit the bullet and paid out for a Ferret Nation Midwest 3 Section cage. Cost a nice bit but totally worth it. I have 12 rats in it and they have so much space. You can buy it with two sections, or even just the one, depending on the number of rats going in it. It has two doors either side of each section that open right out allowing yopu full access to all the cage, ladders that clip up and seperate each section for easy cleaning or segregation of poorly rats, easy to clean pull out bases on each section, and an extra level and ladder for each section. The bars are approx 1inch wide (poss smaller) and apart from the small babies I have all sizes of boys in there and not one escapee! I don't know if it's suitable for girlies as I only have boys but I can't see a problem.
