My poorly Mouse Zim.

Hi there,
Sorry my first post is a unhappy one but I could really use some advice.

I have 2 pet mice, zim and shin, they were litter mates, both male. They lived together for a while untill I started hearing squeeking and they started fighting, So we separated them.
I have only had them for less than a year, last week Zim started making strange clicking noises when he breaths, he's not moving much, his wheel hasn't been touched, he's barely eating or drinking. Is he dying?

I could really use some advice.

Thanks

Kristie.

peter0 will become famous soon enough
Re: My poorly Mouse Zim.

As LostGirl said it sounds like a respitory problem, The vet should give you some anti-boitic like batryil and that should hopefully clear it up. Hope he's feeling better soon

Re: My poorly Mouse Zim.

No point really its not got anything in it that will give him any goodness and yeah it will prob give him the runs and if hes already poorly it could make him dehydrated

baby food and dried pasta is better there be more but my minds gone blank, I know they can have 70% coco chocolcate which is meant to help with Respitory problems, Things like Dr squiggles help abit abit aswell But he'll need to see a vet to get something like Baytril

Just needed to add - a MINISCULE amount of dark chocolate to ease and lubricate the airways in the event of severe respiratory distress, but really a course of Baytril should do the trick.

Re: My poorly Mouse Zim.

to fatten him up use baby food as suggested and scrambled egg,but yiu really need to get him to the vets for some baytril as he will only get worse and the outcome will be fatal.

Re: My poorly Mouse Zim.

Vet's may not be possible, I am waiting to hear if I am gonna get council tax and housing benifit so then I can use the pdsa for free but I cannot afford a proper vet at the moment can barely afford to feed ourselfs. Can you tell we have just moved out of our parents. lol.

I have made him some scrambled egg, got some dry pasta and my fiance has ran to the shop for some dark chocolate. Bless him.

Thanks for all your advice.

Hopefully I will hear really soon about the PDSA so I can take him, but untill then please keep throwing the advice my way.

Re: My poorly Mouse Zim.

You need to get some 2.5% oral Baytril into him, put 0.5ml in a bottle of 75ml of water and change that every day, if you cant manage a vets appointment which is obviously the ideal situation then an understanding vet might prescribe it without an appointment. Malt paste is excellent for building up mice, so is egg food, both are available from pet shops, the paste will be in the ferret department and the egg food will be in the bird section.
