Confused...rat help needed
My girls will always be running around their cage and take the food out of their dish to hide it away in their nest but last night I noticed they weren't moving their food and then this morning I checked and there was still no food moved.
However, when I was playing with them outside the cage they were eating yoghurt off the spoon and a few little treats. Also they were just sitting on their shelf most of last night looking miserable. One thing I can think of was that i usually use kitchen roll as bedding but this time I used a mix of that, newspaper and shredded paper. Could that be the problem? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: Confused...rat help needed
I'd only worry if they look ill like fluffed up fur or sluggish movements.
Any funny noises like chesty RI. But maybe they feel they don't need to stash there food now knowing they have a constant supply???

Re: Confused...rat help needed
One of my hamsters is like that, very very unusual behaviour for a hammie.
She takes some food up to her bedroom but mostly will go to the bowl which is quite a way from her nest to have a snack. I'd echo the response if they seem ill in anyway - sluggish, slow, runny nose/eyes, then take them to a vet. But they could have just been having an off day. Personally I think animals can be just as guilty for off days like we do - where there isn't anything wrong, we just need to catch up on our sleep and take it easy, we just feel very lazy. If there's no visible sign of illness, see if this passes within 12-24 hours, if not take them to a vet. If it resolves and they are back to normal action then fine. If any signs of illness start to appear take them straight to the vet. You checked their cage for any signs of 'loose/watery poo's'? Make sure they have new fresh water.

Re: Confused...rat help needed
Their poos are fine i think possibly there is too much stuff in their cage at the minute so I will try removing some and see if they prefer that. This is the most bedding I've put in since I got them so it might be a bit confusing for them
