Mice pee!

Does anyone else who owns mice males in particular that like to urinate all over the bars of there cage?

Bobby has taken to peeing all over them and it's really honking. If I wipe them down he's only going to keep marking.

So was wondering cause at the min he's in a ferplast rainbow hamster cage could I replace his cage for a ferplast mini duna? There around the similar size as each other albeit 4cm shorter in length making it 55cm long.

Would this be ok for bobby?
All his toys and wheel can go into the mini duna.
I'm doing a straight swap with a friend.

Re: Mice pee!

I don't know if any other mousie owners keep theirs in mini dunas. Part of me thinks it'd be alright, part of me is worried about the air circulation and build up of ammonia.
You knew male mice honked like hell prior to getting Bobby, right?

Re: Mice pee!

Mine used to do that alllll the time, blooming boys eh

Personally I wouldn't use a mini duna as Argent said the ventilation isn't great especially for smelly male mice.

With mine they were moved into a ZZ1 and that solved the problem as it is bigger than the duna so it didn't let the smell build up

Re: Mice pee!

No didn't know unfortunately I've had females in the past that didn't honk. So didn't think twice about a male stinking.

The duna has a wire large lid on top the hole top is near enough wire.
Would that still build up the smell of urine?

Re: Mice pee!

Ok I'll leave him be.
I've cleaned him out today as hubby picked up my bag of megazorb last nite so wiped some of the bars down and a couple of his toys but left the rest.

Thank you x

Re: Mice pee!

I have a mini duna for my 2 older girls attatched to a small climbing cage and it needs cleaning quite a lot as the smell builds up pretty fast. Hoping to upgrade them soon

Re: Mice pee!

No worries I'm keeping him in the ferplast rainbow cage now.
Hopefully he'll calm down.

Re: Mice pee!

When you cleaned him out did you clean out the entire cage or did you do a partial clean? I only ever did a half cage clean when I had entire males and they hardly scent marked, when I used to clean the entire cage they did what your Bobby is doing and frantically tried to make it smell like them.
