Rescue Female with her litter Advice plsx

My little Rescue female was pregnant and Here's me thinking she was just a little Fat one.
After the shock of me never having a pregnant Rat before and that as soon as I noticed she was Pregnant she gave birth to 18 babies, 15 survived and are all so cute.

At first I thought I was going to have to find a nursing Mum but it just goes to show a rescue rat which was given to me for biting is such a loving little mummy and she is also now so loving and cuddly towards me.....

Anyone know what the best food I should wean these little ones onto as I can see they are ready for solids as they are stealing there Mum's.....
Also I really don't want to place ads for these little one's in case they end up in the wrong hands, is there any safe forums etc that I should check out.
Thanks
Samanthaxx

Re: Rescue Female with her litter Advice plsx

I'd give them kitten pouches, baby food, porridge, mashed fruit etc. Feed them as much as they like, they're growing like weeds at this point, and mum would probably appreciate some chicken as well as what the babas are eating.

Be sure to separate the boys from the mum and girls at 4.5-5 weeks of age.

The photo of the babies in a heap is so lovely.
If she was pregnant before you got her the rescue centre may be able to help with finding homes, its worth asking them.

you can also give them all Soya milk /Scrambled Egg /sardines/ cous cous /Kale etc -mum has a big litter so will also appreciate these foods.
you must be close to FurryFriends rescue in Croydon -Anna sometimes posts here -they could maybe help you in finding homes for them.

Re: Rescue Female with her litter Advice plsx

I cannot believe a rescue made such a gross mistake. Which one was it?

Are you all clued up on sexing? Only you don't want brothers and sisters to start mating otherwise you're going to be in real trouble. I think they can become sexually mature from 3 weeks old??

Deffinitely call the rescue - that's awful!I don't know the full story obviously but really a Rescues are the one place that should know better than to allow a pregnant rat to be rehomed. This also would suggest it hasn't been quarantined properly!!!! I'd be furious.

I know a few rescues in the croydon/South London area. Please let me know and I can hopefully put you onto someone that will help you rehome the babies and/or come over to you to help you sex, can't make promises but I can try - or a vet maybe able to help?

Fancy rats forum is a good place to advertise them in the rehoming section.

They are gorgeous.

They are not sexually mature at that age. Splitting them at 4.5 weeks will be fine.
