Re: Rattie Pituitary Tumour?

I'm so sorry that you and your ratties are having such a tough time . A few of mine have had injectable steroids in the past which helped. Dont know about metacam, i have it here but have never used it, I've never been 100% sure whether to or not. Do you think shes in much pain? it's not a good sign she's struggling to chew, I always have a stock of baby food just incase any of mine take a turn. Thinking of you hun x

Thanks, I've soaked some of her old biccies and she had a good go on that. It's not so much she looks like she's in pain, she's got no porph, fur is not spiked, eyes wide and clear, she's just got next to no balance, and her world must be spinning, she probably feels really disoriented and I was wondering if the Metacam, being an anti-inflammatory, might relieve some of the pressure in her head. Her awful sounding recurring resp noises aren't great either... They went when she was on the Baytril/steroids, but have returned with a vengeance.

If you give her Metacam you won't be able to get her the Dex tomorrow as this could do her serious harm
I would just hold off until she see's the vet to be on the safe side

poor little girl, at least she managed to eat though. If she doesn't have porph etc maybe she's dealing with it better than you think. Honestly couldn't say about the metacam though . If she's seeing a vet tomorrow maybe best not too.

Edit Sorry Bernie didn't see your reply till I posted mine bloody internet is being so slow!

Re: Rattie Pituitary Tumour?

Just an update, been to the vets today, Shank is booked in for her op next monday, vet thinks she's in fine condition but the prices have gone up YET AGAIN since I had Mimi done ¬_¬

Lavi has had a steroid injection and I've come home with more Prednisolone tabs and been told to get her back on the Baytril as well for her hooting noises. We start the tablets on Friday, and if she doesn't begin to improve, change her onto Metacam to see if that makes any difference to her balance. So glad this vet was more willing to just get her on the steroids. She's 22-23 months old, she's done well for a runty young mum, she deserves a chance

Steroids are a much better anti inflammatory then metacam, so if you don't see a difference with them then you won't see a difference with metacam.
