Worried about Keek!

Hi, I'm worried about keek (Kiki) our hamster. I've emailed a vet and asked for an appointment for tomorrow do we are taking him to the vet straight away but in the meantime I wanted to ask opinions.

Basically Kiki came to us as Harry but we found no evidence of testies so assumed he was a she and changed the name to kiki.

Well in December a few weeks after we took her in I was holding her when it appeared Kiki got into the festive mood and trimmed up for Christmas! Two little baubles popped out. So he's now keek lol.

Saturday night and Sunday he hadn't touched his food and neither had he come out to see us as he usually does whenever we go in to the rodent room. Then last night again he didn't come out but he did eat. I picked him up and checked him over and found his eye was sticky again but also his right testicle is swollen, purple and hard. It's the same tonight and again he's not eaten and he's not greeting us which is why I've emailed the vets! Though he has had about two and a half hours play time in total today! He's moving around fine and doesn't seem to be in pain.

Do I have a reason to worry? Or am I just making a mountain out of a testicle??

Re: Worried about Keek!

Hiya I have tried taking pics but it's not coming out on camera and well he's too squirmy and is difficult lol. He's got an appointment at 4pm today with the vet! Poor little boy he's in a round rotastak cage atm as we're on our travels and wanted him with me so I could keep an eye on him and we're going to the vets straight from my mums. He doesn't look impressed!! He is far too big for it! He could never live in there!!

Re: Worried about Keek!

Hi we were mega early at the vets cos it was the first time there and they saw us early. He's been given a painkiller and baytril and we'll first see if they make a difference in the next couple of days. If that doesn't make any difference then he will have to have them chopped off. It's a lot better than I was expecting!! I will keep you updated x

Re: Worried about Keek!

Oh good news but just keep your eye on them incase they flare up again.
Abs run the course of baytril your vet has prescribe.

Hopefully your new vets will know what there doing with your ratties too.
How are they by the way?

Re: Worried about Keek!

They're very very wicked boys!! They've been fighting big style over the last two days. No nasty wounds or anything but Chico (naked) has got quite a few scratches on him. He seems to have developed an attitude as he never usually gets involved in fights but he took both of the other boys on at the same time! Only since yesterday. I dunno what's changed. Do you think I need to worry?

Also Millie has become friends with them! She sits and watches them and tries to play with them but they don't have a clue what to do obviously. Riley tries to cuddle up underneath her but she's not keen on that lol.

I will definately keep an eye on Keeks boy parts. If it happens again I'll get them snipped off straight away rather than having him go through this over and over again. He really wasnt himself. He didn't want to socialise or eat or explore. Just lie in his bed all day. Thankfully he's feeling much better and is back to his lovely old self!
