Sprocker is on a distinguished road
Degu with depression?

Hi all

I originally had three degus, Mali, Bu and Ice. Mali and Bu just couldn't get on.. and Mali had to be rehomed.
Bu and Ice were the best of friends, Ice was the younger by about 6 months but she became the boss! She's.... for lack of a better word, unhinged. I'm not sure what it is about her.. or how to describe it but you always got a vibe from her that something wasn't quite right.
They lived happily together for years. I keep in touch with the person who adopted Mali too to see how she's doing.

Everything was fine.. but now.. Well my precious little girl Bu died. She was an amazing character, though I will probably make a thread about her on the rainbow bridge area (I'm still discovering these boards!)

Bu's death was always going to hit Ice hard.. I kind of hoped they would go together. Before her death, Bu became obsessed with chewing the metal part of one of their toys. It was unusual behaviour. She died shortly after me removing it.

Ice is probably completely blind in one eye due to a cataract, which I think is a genetic thing. She tolerates me.. to an extent. It took quite a while to get to that point! Since she's become a lone degu.. she has little to no interest in.. well anything really. She picks at her food, mainly just sits and stares into space. I gave her a whole loo roll as that was one of their favourite things to destroy... Ice used it to stand on briefly but apart from that she hasn't touched it.

Getting another Degu is out of the question, but I'm running out of ideas on how to cheer her up. I suspect she is on her way out too I just hate the idea of her last "however long" being so depressing.
