Fruit Tree banches - suitable?

Didn't really know what to put in the title

I'm interested in getting some branches for a mouse cage (don't have them yet, proving difficult to find some in my area) give them some nice climbing branches. But, I'm not sure what would be suitable and how I would get rid of any bugs that could be present in the banches... My sister has little fruit trees in her garden that I can steal some branches from, would these be okay?? Or should I just go out and buy some climbing ropes and save myself the trouble?

Any thoughs would be great. Thanks.

These are safe/unsafe woods for Gerbils, but I assume it will be similar for all rodents.

You could freeze them to get rid of bugs, or alternatively bake them. If you are to bake them I'd suggest dipping them in water first as if they are quite dry you don't want them to catch fire!

Re: Fruit Tree banches - suitable?

No problem. I'd probably do the same! Pop them in a bag in a freezer overnight and take them out in the morning, leave for an hour or so and then they will be ready

Wow, that's a really helpful list! We've been looking for ways to make the cage interesting for the rats, and we've a weeping willow in the garden that is on the safe list. Thanks!
