I need you,

Just thought you'd be interested to hear that I've sent two letters to 'i don't want to get banned from this site' but a known company who likes to make animal "eglu's" to look like furniture in their home' and retails at £119-139. I have reported their wire bottom cage that they've advertised as suitable for hamsters - along with documented evidence as to why it's not. I've pleaded with them to change their design. I grumbled it wasn't big enough but stressed about the wire bottom telling them that there will be big repercussions if families start having to pay out vet bills for hamsters with bad feet!

I called today to chase up and the lady dealing with my case has said it's been sent to the directors of the company to look at.

There's a chance they may change the design and sell the products only with the hard based - that's what I'm pleading with them to do (they have a hard floor design already for Russian Dwarf hamsters) - the product goes live on the 12th December. I've sent them evidence of what a wire cage can do to a hamsters foot, (bumblefoot aswell as breaks).

Ok so the size isn't big enough, but as it is still legal to sell those cages here in the UK I haven't got a hope of challenging that, the wire cage though I might! I asked them where they did their research and to look at the wire frame bottom as NO OTHER COMPANY MAKES THEM - even rotacrap has better sense!

I will keep you posted and I will seek legal advice to get this product pulled if necessary. I will fight all the way to get this product pulled. For the mean time I have to wait for their response and I'm going to seek advice from the RSPCA and research animal law to see what the deal is. I have a very small background in law but nothing like this but I will hit the library and find out more.

In the meantime - if any of you have any documents that prove bumblefoot was the cause of a metal wire frame bottom or any evidence to help my case please email me at: squeakysmallpaws@gmail.com. Let's get this product pulled people before it hits the shelf!

We're all animal fantatics and we love our pets so dearly, but we have to except that we are in the minority with our knowledge base and reason that many people just don't have the same knowledge that we do, some may argue it's their fault, some may argue it's not - but with the very best intentions for their children and the pet they wish to buy - good people may not know what they are buying and the pain it might inflict on their small animal - we have to quit getting at the unknowledgable pet shop consumer and go for the companies and the law!

Love Hamster fanatic - (imagine if my JC, Princess, Prince Philip or Mr Fox had to live like that).

We can do this and we can change something! Any info you can gather can only help my case.

xxxx

Wow can i just say well done to you!! I know exactly what cage you are talking about and my heart dropped as soon as i saw it.

Have you thought about starting a petition? It may help. There are other wire bottomed cages out there although they are usually easily removed (not that thats the point).

I will also happily write to them or email too to voice my opinions on it. Can you pm the address?

Re: Please read -your help is required

p.s test cases - where companies were find liable for damage to a small animals feet, or where a company pulled a product like this because it was unfit for purpose - would be fantastic! If not any info is valuable!

Well done you hun for doing something like this.
It's people like you (and all of the rest of us) that give animals a voice which they so need. Getting products changed so they are suitable is a huge thing, animals cant complain about unsuitable cages themselves!

I dont have any proof or anything to do with bumblefoot as I've never used a wire bottom cage.

What cage is the one that's coming out?
