New Cage Cracked

After the clasp of my hamster cage broke on Tuesday evening and I had to stick it together with brown tape, I was very excited when my new one arrived today. However, after spending a while putting it together my daughter noticed a 3 inch crack in the top plastic lid. I have contacted the supplier (Pet Express, Plymouth) and the boss is not around until Monday!!!!!

Question is, do I put the hamster in and hope they don't escape and hope they send me a replacement part. Presumably they won't be able to start a nibbling sesh via the crack! My other cage is a nightmare to access my hamster having to seal it up for safety and I'm desparate.

Re: New Cage Cracked

Are you in Plymouth at all? The ark is the actual name if the pet shop that runs the site you could take it back straight to store with your order details they may be able to swap it over

What cage was it?

I wouldn't put hammy in the cracked cage just incase pet express ask you to send it back for them to be able to send a replacement. They may not take it back if it's been used already.

And if it's been used they might say you broke it.

Re: New Cage Cracked

No, unfortunately I'm in Sheffield and ordered it from the internet.

Its a Ferplast Duna Fun Cage and it was a real pain putting it together, but do really like it now its up!

I think I know I shouldn't put my hamster in there really, but her other cage is on the brink of escapeable as it is!

I rang the shop immediately and the manager was out, they said to take a picture and email it and hopefully he would be back by 5.30pm and could let me know what he could do. I did this but have not heard back. Its just the whole weekend to wait now as apparently if he wasn't back tonight, he wouldn't be there until Monday to look at it. Typical.

Thanks, I've emailed and did call again at 5.25 but they didn't pick up. I guess I will have to suffer the weekend and try again Monday.

Re: New Cage Cracked

Thanks, thats really kind, but I think I'm over my tantrum and going to just see what they say Monday when they get the email. Its just getting it and dying to put my little one it, its driving me insance. But I am practising patience and untaping and retaping the old cage for a few more days.

Thanks again.

Re: New Cage Cracked

for extra security you can stand the old hamster cage inside the empty bath with the plug in so if it does manage to escape when youre not there its safely stuck in the bath and not loose in the house
