Rodent Xmas Presents!?

What are you getting or making for your lovely little rodents for christmas? Doesn't have to be christmas but any gifts or toys you have bought etc.

For my ratbags so far I've bought a box of milk bones as I've read that they're good for them as they're full of calcium so far. I've ordered some fleece blankets and am going to cut them up and make hammocks out of them.

I've also seen these jingle sticks in the works (£2.99) and basically are just a lot of bells on a wooden stick. I haven't bought one yet as I wanted to check it would be ok first but I think they may like playing with it. What do you think?

I'm also making a sort of hammock for Kiki the hamster out of the blankets (got a lovely pink and white pokadot one for her).

I'm also planning on buying some christmassy fluffy socks and I intend on filling them with treats and hanging them in their cages so they can get the treats and have the warmth from the socks

I'm not sure what else yet lol.

Re: Rodent Xmas Presents!?

I saw those jingle sticks! I think the rats would love them- I was so enamoured with them (like a 5 year old honestly, I was giggling and everything!) that I didn't even think about the rats!

I already spent a bomb on making them tons of hammocks to fill their new cage in a very expensive Michael Miller reindeer fabric (it's so cute)
I made them some treats too but their real present is coming after Christmas- they're getting a new wheel, lava ledges, new balls and hopefully a play pen.
I'd be a millionnaire if I didn't have rats!

Re: Rodent Xmas Presents!?

It's done! It's in the cage pics thread, on the last page.

I put some bells on rope in their cage (thought that would be festive). They're in the room next door to us and sometimes I just hear a faint jingle jangle lol.

Re: Rodent Xmas Presents!?

I was thinking yoghurt drops (there are some specially for degus). I was also going to buy them a tunnel. I might buy a little stocking to put it in although I'd really have to watch them so they don't eat it ^-^;; ha.

Re: Rodent Xmas Presents!?

Unfortunatly i have too many pets to get individual gifts for. I will however give the degus one of these which they get every so often anyway Great Deals on Natural Snacks at zooplus!: Mr. Woodfield Roll 'n' Fun Nibble Log as the rats and hams will be getting leftover dinner from both my parents house and my partners parents house

Re: Rodent Xmas Presents!?

As I have so many here and I spoil them rotten throughout the year, I don't tend to buy christmas prezzies. The Rodents share my dinner and the buns get their secret santa gifts on the day

Re: Rodent Xmas Presents!?

I'm torn this year, I really want to invest in metal trays for the cage bottoms to stop the constant rain of droppings & substrate, but that will mean I won't have any spare cash for pressies for the rats
I'm thinking of making some liver cake for the dogs so maybe I can wrap some up for them to open on Christmas day
Last year they had lots of new hammocks & treats & individual Christmas dinners

Re: Rodent Xmas Presents!?

Being a complete saddo im getting the dogs this cake for xmas Turkey and Stuffing christmas cake for dogs | eBay Ive bought dog birthday cakes from this lady and i was impressed. But if you can make one even better, i would like to have a go myself its just finding the time.

For the metal trays for the cage do you have any sheet metal workshops near you? Im sure they could cheaply make you trays out of left over metal. My ex was a sheet metal worker and on his breaks he used to make hugee metal money boxes with left over stuff that you cant open and sell them.
