Tank setup for new gerbils! (Pic heavy)

Further to my post before re: how to set up my 4 foot tank, here are some piccies. I know I love seeing everyone else's pictures, so thought it's about time I put some on too.

I've used an old shoe box as a little shelter/bedroom. I'll fill the egg box with food and hay when my new friends arrive.

From the top from right to left:-

And with my home-made lid on:-

I'm EXCITED!!!!

it looks awesome

the only thing id say needs adding is more substrate for them to dig and burrow in, like 3/4 full

That looks amazing, your trio are going to be VERY happy in there.

Are you going to be using the shredded paper as a substrate all the time? It's just that it doesn't hold tunnels very well and digging tunnels is what gerbils seem to love doing best!
I find a mixture of megazorb and hay is good for holding tunnels.

Hiya it looks great - The boys will love it!

Just to echo what some of the others have said, you would need to at least double the amount of substrate you have in there.
All the Gerbils here are used to a really deep amount to build their tunnels, so it would be unfair for them to have less

This is an average amount that I put in - incidentally it's a four foot tank with a trio in it

Yep, definitely planning on putting more substrate in it, gonna go and buy some megazorb tomorrow, and have got some hay already.

Thanks for all the great feedback and tips. Much appreciated! Will post pics when my new friends are here. xx
