Tips on gerbil tank
Hi,
I've got a 4 foot tank for 3 gerbils, due to come to me soon! I'm just wondering if anyone has any tips of how to make the best use of the space for them. I know they'll come and re-arrange it any way! I'm just thinking where to put levels for them to sit on, if anyone's got any piccies that's be great. I'm gonna start setting it up today - very exciting! I've got shredded paper, hay, flower pots, wood chews, I'm going to suspend the water bottle from the homemade lid I've made, and will scatter feed I think. And not forgetting lots of cardboard! I suppose the main thing would be where to put their bed, and tips on how to make a bed. Would a shoe box be ok? Thanks xx ![]() ![]() |

Re: Tips on gerbil tank
Aawwww it's great that you're excited about getting your gerbils
![]() You sound like you've got everything covered! The gerbils are going to be very lucky. In my gerbils tanks I do have a wooden house, one of these Trixie Jerrik House for Rodents - Various Size | Net Pet Shop I have the smallest size and 2 gerbils fit in just nicely, for 3 gerbils you may need the second size up. As well as the wooden house I put in large boxes with a hole cut in and stuffed with bedding, they do destroy them after a day of two though. A shoe box would be great. hhmmm...where to put the bed....I put a couple of inches of substrate, then the bed, then cover it up with more substrate. What I also do is just put in a couple of handfuls of shredded bedding and a whole toilet roll (they shred it) they dig tunnels and stuff in the substrate and sleep in there. Oh and sometimes they just sleep on top of all the substrate, with no bedding at all. They just cuddle up to each other and nod off ![]() |
