Thank you very much!! I will cry too if the children are there. I feel really bad for taking them away from the children and almost said no but then I thought if they really are determined to give them away then they will and I know I can give them all the love and care they need. And the children will get updates and pictures and of course they can come and see them whenever they want!

I honestly cannot tell you how excited I am at getting them home!! I cant wait to get them settled in and to make them feel safe and at home.

Sorry to butt in on your post but what is the difference between a breed and a variety? Everyone seems to have different ideas of which is which so a definite answer would be great thanks.

I used to have rats and would love to have them again sometime but with the house style we have nowhere to put a cage. We never had a cage, our Dad cut holes in an old bookcase and fitted it up with ladders and stuff with glass fronted doors. Proper little rat palace. Aww i want some more now...

Re: Yay for Saturday!

Because they are not like dogs where u get different breed of dog.
Rats are all the same they just come in different coat types and colours which is a variety.

Still doesn't really help cuz you can get breeds and varietys of guinea pig but they're pretty much same body shape and size and everything, it's just the coat types, colours and patterns. This question has been haunting me for the last couple of months

Re: Yay for Saturday!

A breed, according to Webster's Dictionary again, is a group of animals presumably related by descent from common ancestors and visibly similar in most characteristics. A more precise definition of breed is found in Desmond Morris' book Dogs: the ultimate dictionary of over 1,000 dog breeds. According to Morris' definition, a breed is a type of animal that differs from all others of the same species in some way, has a separate history and breed name, and has been breeding true for a number of generations. So, beagle and Doberman are examples of different dog breeds.

According to this definition, there are no separate breeds of rats (yet).

A purebred animal (again according to Webster's) refers to a member of a recognized breed, strain or kind without admixture of other blood over many generations.

So, because there are no separate breeds of rats, there are no purebred rats in the pet world. There are, however, many different strains of rats in laboratories, and a rat from one of those strains could conceivably be called purebred. However, "purebred" is a term that is never used in laboratory rat breeding.
