It's not looking great

My rats are on a course of antibiotics as two of the older girls (out of the 3 pets at home rats I rehomed from someone who had no time for them) started having nasal discharge and sneezing.

One of the 2 seems to be looking a bit better but the other has lost even more weight (and yes I am sure they are getting their dose as I put it in food and take them out seperately to make sure they eat it) and is sleeping even more.

So back to the vets, not looking forward to it I hate when pets are sick!

The little rat is having the andibiotics for suspected inner ear infection as she has a tilted head I hope it really is ear infection and nothing more serious!

And the older one is recovering from lump removal and looks quite miserable. She has just enjoyed some free range time on her own and munched on some treats beside me on the couch but then made her way back into her cage.

They cause so much stress and worry but I love my ratties they are fab pets, I don't think I will ever not have rats again.

Re: It's not looking great

Im sorry about your poor ratties I hope they recover, unfortunatly rats are prone to so many health problems. There was a point early this year when i almost decided not to keep rats anymore due to the heartbreak but then changed my mind.

For the one loosing weight you could try feeding baby food, creamed coconut or something called nutrical to help get extra calories in. There is also something called Mycoform T you can add to their water to help with resp problems, its for birds but is suitable for rats too, i ordered some today for my rats.

Re: It's not looking great

Thanks
Yeah back to the vet to tell him she doesn't seem to be doing so well so hopefully he will give me something else for her.

Will get some baby food for her once they wake up again too.

They are all pets at home rats which I guess doesn't give me great confidence but well they needed new homes and I wanted rats lol. Still the person that had the 3 older ones I douvt she would have ever taken them to the vets.

Going to look at that stuff to put in the water now.
