Guinea pig mites

Hello, my guinea pig, Pumpkin, has mites again. He had them 2years ago and was given ivermectin by the vet which cleared them up really quickly. The vets won't be able to see him until Thursday. Are there any over the counter medicines from the pet shop that are any good?

You can get ivermectin online hun, just google it.
If you'd rather not buy online could your vet just prescribe some for Pumpkin without seeing him?

Yeah online are OK...I use ChemistDirect for meds and things.

Keep an eye on him though cos if they persist he may need a jab from the vets. Depends how bad the infestation/outbreak is.

I'll have a look at that website. It's not too bad at the moment, hardly noticable really. Last time it was really bad but cleared up surprisingly quickly by orally taken ivermectin. Do you think it could be caused by his hay? His an indoor piggy and kept on fleece, but his friend has never had it.

Hay is a likely cause (I believe) with indoor piggies. Ring up the vets and see if they will dose you out some ivermectin without a consultation fee? Cos it will probably be cheaper than ordering online plus delivery and obviously quicker. And you get the correct dosage.

Oh I did get some from The Range if you have one near you.

Oh and if there are two together i would treat both, as a preventative treatment.
