have more tiny baby ratties

well i went to pick up 2 male dumbo rats from stafford yesterday.
now i'm pretty sure she is a feeder breeder as she had 25 babies and sold 11 yesterday to one person?
i got there and they were kept in a storage plastic container with a small grid cut out for the bottle.
they were on shavings and the plastic box was full of condensation, the shavings were wet and they had no food.

there was 4 altogther(males) i couldn't bare to leave the other two so she said i could have all 4 for £10.now i know some people would've walked away but i'm not like that.

anyway they are only 3.5 weeks old
i could not walk away as i knew they most likely end up as snake food.
in the pic on the ad they looked a lot bigger so didn't question the age untill i was there on the day to collect them. we'd done a 40 mile trip to get there.

she still has 11 females left

anyway here are my newiest members of the family, they are in a large hamster cage for the time being untill they are 6-7 weeks old and then they can join my big lads in the explorer cage.depending on how much weight/size they get.

they met humprfey my 4 month boy earlier,he's so soppy bless him and the babies were all over him, trying to find teets

meet wally black/white roan dumbo, geoffrey fawn roan dumbo, vinny top eared fawn roan and wesley black hooded top ear.

sorry for the bad quality of pics there taken on my phone.

Re: have more tiny baby ratties

forgot to say the babies were already split from mum.

they are getting a high protein diet to try and build them up as they are quite skinny.

Re: have more tiny baby ratties

Poor little boys But at least you will give them the quality of life they deserve, its just a shame about the rest. Some people are such idiots its unreal Could you not report her for the poor conditions they are being kept in?

Goat milk scrambled eggs goes down very well with my youngsters as well as baby food oh and they are little cuties!

Re: have more tiny baby ratties

ok so she is def a feeder breeder,i actually feel sick to the stomach knowing this.
found her on a very well known reptile forum and saw all her previous threads.all with baby rat weener, adults, youngsters etc.she was also selling a rat breeding rack which consisted on 6 tiny plastic tubs on top of each other with a water bottle in and then a female rat that looked huge in these tubs.

and a huge fish tank with two breeder adults on shavings

looks like she is a mass feeder.
no wonder she didn't want me seeing the parents as i did ask where they were.

please don't judge me i feel bad enough already, but at least these 4 babies will be safe here with me.

I judged you, the verdict was guilty

of having a heart of gold, I nearly cried looking at the pictures and imagining those little babies being snake food, I hope they go from strength to strength and have an amazing long life with you

Re: have more tiny baby ratties

they are lovely looking ratties, I would just be careful personally and quarantine them from your other guys for 2 weeks.

There is only so much we can do in this world, I appreciate that snakes etc need to eat, however she still has a choice to the condition she keeps her breeding rats in, karma will get her...

Re: have more tiny baby ratties

Thanks tdm and to the other lovely comments.
Unfortunately I have no way of quarantining them.
So I just hope they will b ok.

Been reading up on fancy rats info section regards weaning rats etc and they should still b having mums milk!
Along with wet mushy foods and other things.

So tonite they've had gourmet cat meat, scrambled eggs, wholemeal bread soaked in milk, sweetcorn, peas, kale, carrot and broccoli.

The bread didn't go down well lol.

Oh and they had chicken so I'm hoping all that will b gone over nite.
