Re: Mouse food question?

Yes

A mouse is really like a mini rat so following the shunamite diet for them is what I was told is best.
But because I am lazy and dont fancy making up a mix myself I buy the ready made ones from rat rations, my mice absolutely love the one I give them and there is never any bits left in the bowl.

Re: Mouse food question?

As Purple said, yes there is a difference.

Many shop bought mouse and gerbil mixes contain peanuts which many mice can get skin reactions from eating them, they also contain maize which can cause the same reaction.

I feed my mice the Shunamite diet which they love but if you don't want to research into that many shop bought rat mixes are great for mice

Re: Mouse food question?

All three have quite different requirements in terms of protein, fat, carbs, oils etc although unfortunately the manufacturers of the pet food don't seem to bother!! I make my own mouse food following the shunamite principles for rats. However, when I first got my mice I fed them on P@H rat muesli which they loved. I generally avoid peanuts, maize and sunflower seeds either by getting mixes that don't have them in it or by picking them out. A majority of my mice have had allergies or intolerances to maize and peanuts (which presents as itchiness, lethargy, swollen stomachs and a whole host of other issues) whilst sunflower seeds can be fattening so should be given sparingly, especially if some of your mice are lazy!!
