Re: sand baths :)

chinchillas NEED sand baths. Pet shops sell chinchilla sand, any suitable sized container will be ok for a chinchilla. Mine looks like a food warmer steel dish!
IF a sand bath is ok for hamsters, perhaps look into chinchilla sand.

Re: sand baths :)

A sand bath is perfectly fine for hammies !

Play sand is okay if its not already in a sanpit as you could get all sorts of nasties.

Argos/toy'r'us sell play sand

Argos sell its for £2.49 a bag its the cheapest place and cheapest sand.

chinnchilla dust is expensive..

Re: sand baths :)

Play sand is not suitable for any animals they need clay dust designed for chinchillas and yes any container will do, a old chocolate tin is ideal .

Re: sand baths :)

I have to say, in my opinion chinchilla sand is not expensive. ... you will only use a small amount at a time, it doesnt need to be fresh sand each visit.
Play sand comes damp - i use many bags at work.
I would not want to be allowing my warm furry hamster to clog up with play sand.
