Unhappy hogan broke his leg

well been out today to buy megazorb and various bits.
come home to find hogan my russian blue with a broken back leg.
he's holding it up but tries to scratch with it.

so he's in a hamster cage on strict rest with metacam and i keep swapping rats over to keep him company and so that they dont forget him as i'd hate for them to take a dislike to him after 2-3 weeks of being out of the main cage.

Re: hogan broke his leg

Chances are he's sprained it badly. When Frost sprained her hand it was very swollen, but it healed very quickly. She stayed in the main cage with her friends, I just made it easier to get about. I did the same for Willow when she broke her leg.

Re: hogan broke his leg

I think your right snippet I think he may have just twisted it or sprained as he's walking on it now his foot is to the ground his toes are spread he scratches with it and runs on it. He's also been grasping the bars to climb with it.
I have been putting different rats in with him for company and last nite Percy kept him company all nite.
He's on hid own now but he looks so much better.

How long should I leave him in the hamster cage for? I hate him being stuck in it.

Re: hogan broke his leg

If he's on metacam and he's looking better then I'd put him back if with his friends. When my girls have hurt themselves they stay in the main cage, but I make sure they can't fall too far.

Re: hogan broke his leg

I would put him back but keep a good eye on him -remember pain killer means you can do yourself more injury because you aren't feeling the pain while over doing it
