How many piggies in this hutch?
I'm looking to buy the Summer Lodge Double Hutch by Sharples N Grant for my future guinea pigs from Pets at Home. Here it is: ![]() It's almost exactly 4 ft x 2 ft, and it's 5 ft tall. It has two storeys, so floor space is about 16 square feet. The hutch will be on our balcony, and they'd have a LOT of free time in the house. I'm wondering how many pigs would thrive in this environment. I've heard a lot of different suggestions, so I'm looking to get an average. We'll probably go for girls, if that makes any difference. Thanks ![]() Last edited by Genevie; 17-09-2011 at 09:38 AM.. |

Re: How many piggies in this hutch?
i wouldnt put any more then 2 in it, theres no garuntee piggies will use the ramp, some piggies really dont get on with ramps at all
IF all piggies did use the ramp, it would only be suitable for 3 maximum piggies do make MUCH better indoor pets then outdoor pets too, they really are not suited to the british climate. its also much too cold to be buying piggies and putting them straight outdoors, and pig bought now would NEED to stay inside till april at the earliest

Re: How many piggies in this hutch?
Honestly, I really don't like the idea of having them outside. I don't really agree with any pets being outside if indoors is a viable alternative. This is my mum's choice though, she doesn't want them in the house. We do have a very small flat, so I can see her reasoning I guess. We should be moving soon, then I might be able to persuade her to keep them inside
We're not getting them right now, it probably won't happen until the weather is warmer.I'll go for 2 then, don't want to overstock the hutch! |
