Sick mouse-vet closed over bank holiday

Hello,

Wondered if anyone could give me some advice please, my mouse seems to be very ill. I dont think she has eaten or had anything to drink for a day or so, she stays in her bed all the time, she is also in a hunched position and seems to be very tired and has slightly laboured breathing. I have tried to give her water and food today with no success, and have also separated her from her sister incase it is anything contagious.

As it is a bank holiday weekend, the vet is closed till tuesday, so any advice to keep her going til then would be very much appreciated, as i know mice can get very ill very quickly.

Thank you.

Re: Sick mouse-vet closed over bank holiday

Im afraid youre going to have to get her to a vet, hunched up is a sign of pain or discomfort, the laboured breathing can be very serious (obviously). What substrate are you using, hopefully not shavings or sawdust and do you have peanuts in the food? Either of those things can be harmful to mice. If you really really cant get her to vet before tuesday you can try putting her in a steamy bathroom for a little while, keep her as warm as you possibly can with a heat pad, soft food like baby food might encourage her to keep eating, and make sure shes drinking plenty, adding a tiny bit of blackcurrant to the water can encourage drinking.

Re: Sick mouse-vet closed over bank holiday

it could be a number of things

she may have mousepox or tyzzers disease

has she got a rough coat, diarrhoea, inflamed eyes or swelling of the face/legs? is she developing a rash or chewing at herself?

you could try her on Tetracycline until you can get her to a vet you can pick it up from a local pet shop over the counter Mice: Tetracycline directions for sneezing mouse, mice, mouse (instructions on how to use it properly)

get her to a vet asap though

Vets always have an imergency number so do Pdsa. Look up Pdsa ring a local one and they should help you. Vets take it in turns to have 1 open. Ring them they would probably have the number on the answer phone. Ive gone late before. Good luck
