Down-sizing cages for hamsters

A little while a go I moved my brothers syrian into a bigger cage as he was being kept in a crittertrail and I didn't like it. However, he is extremely old now, he's well over 3 years. I've noticed in the last week or so he gets out only to collect his food in the evening and goes back to bed. I've moved his food right by his bed so he doesn't have to go far but should I move him to a smaller cage. He's in a rabbit/piggie cage meshed over at the moment but I have a savic peggy cage which they sell in P@H for hamsters, I know in normal circumstances it's far too small but just want to make him feel safe and snug for the last of his life as I'm pretty sure he's not going to be with us much longer.

I can't see any harm in moving him to a smaller cage if he's sleeping a lot and it makes things easier. Sounds like he's had a happy three years with a caring owner.

I have done this with my syrian! He is getting on a bit now and has slowed right down so i moved him to a smaller cage and he seems comfortable and happy (he was in a hamster heaven before)

Ok I'll move him. He doesn't even use his wheel anymore and I want to make things as easy for him as possible.
