thread following on from mr rat

so don't know if some of u remember i posted on here about a rat i took on now named bungle.he was in a right manky state, very thin u could feel every rib and spine bone.his sides sucked in and his coat condition was awful.

well anyhoo after being here a week and 2 days he is already 90% better i treated him with beaper spot on he's had a bath and he's being fed a decent rat mixuture instead of being fed guinea pig food and lots of other yummy foods.
he's put on some weight but still has a little way to go yet.
he is however a bit nippy still and loves to bite fingers so i have to scoop him up pop him on my lap and then he's fine.

well the reason i'm typing this today is i am awaiting a friend for him that is being dropped off today at 2pm
i saw the ad on gumtree male rat and cage,i enquired about him and he's 14 months old friendly(bungle was meant to be friendly )
and lives on his own.

the man is bringing him for me,he comes with the cage so at least he has somewhere to go while a slow intro is being done then i can get rid of that cage and use the existing one.

i am slightly nervous of how its all going to go,bungle is 1yrs old and he's 14months old so its been a while since they've had any ratty contact.
the last rats i had i could never intro others to them as one in particular hated other rats and i gave up.
i just hope with time and patience they will eventually curl up together, groom and play.all the things that these two have missed out on.it makes me so sad to see bungle all alone so i hope he realises its in his best interests.

anyway i'll stop going on and wait patiently(not) for the male ratty to arrive

got him.
he's a blue hooded male.
bites
they said he was friendly??

oh well.
cleaned him out as he was on shavings so he's now on ecopet bed and shredded newspaper.
he lets u stroke his head in the cage but anywhere else and he trys to bite although i did pick him up to transfer to the clean out cage and had a cuddle with him.
he's very cute.
will post pics as soon as possible,oh and he's of good weight too.

You can swap them cages every few days, they will be able to smell each other without actually having contact.

Then I would myself intro in the bath with a little bit of water as they seem to before concerned with the evil water then of each other, move them in to a small clean cage etc or carrier on fancy-rats they have a carrier method intro bit which is very interesting

My blue rescue girls one was a biter but she's come around now, try stroking the bits his not keen on being touched with a tooth brush

Re: thread following on from mr rat

I always do intros by putting a dab of vanilla essence on each rat so they smell similar then I pop them in the bath with a dish of tuna, they always end up sitting in the dish anyway so they smell even more like each other, while they are in there (with someone watching them) I do a mammoth clean and descent of the cage they are going into, I remove all toys etc so there is nothing to fight over then I dab vanilla essence all over so it smells like they do. Then I pop them all in together, touch wood so far we have only had one nasty incident during intros and that was with a very hormonal Bitsy who then had to be neutered. Can we have more piccies of Mr Rat and some of his roomy please .

I love it when it works like that, sometimes they are just so grateful for ratty company that they love each other from the start. Cant wait for the piccies, tell your hubby to hurry up
