Some of you may remember that Orinoco came to me because his previous owners wanted to pts as he killed his cage mate Well after his arrival I noticed how much the poor lil guy drank and also that all he did all day & night was sleep, he never used his wheel all he did was eat, drink (lots) and sleep
I also noticed that he was a lil chubby for his frame, sooo I tested him and discovered he was diabetic, his diet now mainly consists of seeds and he isn't allowed any treats with added sugar.

I am pleased to say it has worked although he still drinks for england he has lost some weight and now has enough energy to be a hamster

Oh my he is a little sweetie. So cute.

I found out my little Zeke had diabetes a few months ago, sadly he passed away today but I changed his diet and he was alot happier afterwards, not so irritable.

Glad this little dude has found a home that is going to look after him properly. Just wondering how do you test for diabetes in a hamster?

I just bought some dip sticks from the chemist and tested his pee. The vet confirmed it by doing the same thing
