Ouch!

Hey everyone,
My rat william had a huge abcess on the side o his face, many vet visits later, a fleshy pussy plug thing is left in its place. Its not healing properly so we're taking him to the vet tomorrow.
This evening, when I was cleaning some excess scab and puss and blood from it, William scratched the flesh with his paw, and then proceeded to scratch me to the point of stinging and a tiny bit of blood. It was an accident of course, he only reached up to say hello, but ended up scratching my chest. He used the same paw as he scratched the flesh with. His flesh is obviously infected, so I was just wondering, could he have given anything to me from his infected ex-abcess wound? I have put antibacterial ointment on the scratch.
Any ideas? Thanks

Re: Ouch!

If you've washed yourself, you'll probably be fine. Have you been cleaning the abcess wound with boiled cooled salted water every day? The wound needs to heal from the outside in, and keeping it extremely clean is the key to making sure he doesn't just trap another infection under his skin and cause a deeper abcess.
Hope he's alright, I wouldn't worry too much about him passing it onto you unless you had a particularly weak immune system or something
