Hi all, I'm a newbie to this site and am looking for some advice. I'm 27 and due to problems with my dad who lives in the us, I'm moving out there in 2 months.

Unfortunately this means my ratties need a new home. What I'm most worried about is not finding someone who'll give them the care and attention they love and need. I play with them every day. I'd take them with me if I could but it's just not feasible I've looked into it. I don't want to take them to a rescue.

They're about a year old (I got them as rescues), and they're all does. 2 are fancy rats and 1 is a dumbo. They're called Ophelia, Teacup and Crumpet and are extremely friendly. I live in Oundle, Northamptonshire.

Can anyone suggest what I do please? It's breaking my heart having to let them go

so sorry to hear about your situation. I'd be beside myself if I had to give my lot up. I know you said you don't want them to end up in rescue, but if there is a small, local rescue (i.e not a big named charity) nearby, a rescue like that will probably be the next best thing to a real home should you not be able to find them a home by then.

How sad

There are a few small rattie rescues on here who might be able to help if I ever had to regime mine it would be through fingers crossed some of these ladies the work they do is brilliant

Thank you very much for your advice it's very kind of you. I was expecting to be yelled at for being irresponsible and I don't think I could take that. I'm so upset at having to rehome them. They keep looking at me all expectantly and it's awful

I'm really sorry to hear you're having to rehome your ratties
Have you contacted any rescues here on the forum, the first person that springs to mind is user 'ceretrea' because she posts quite abit and seems to find homes for the animals really quickly.
Although I dont know if that rescue is close to you or not.
I'd love to have some rats but I'm still saving up for a cage first!

please dont feel awful, unfortunately sometimes things happen, and circumstances change, and it really does sound like this is unavoidable, and i know it would be very stressful to the rats to take them with you (they would have to go into a 6 month quarantine) which wouldnt be fair to them

you are doing the responsible thing, and are trying to find your babies a new loving home, rather then just dumping them on a rescues door step or taking them to a pet store, or sticking them up as free on somewhere like preloved ect.

i hope you manage to find a home for your babies, and more so i hope you find them one with some one who will keep you updated

Sounds like you are doing what you have to - though I know it can't be easy

If you can't rehome privately then there is Brammocks Rattery and Raunds Rat Rescue, Brammocks Rattery and Wood Green Animal Shelter, Dog, Cat and Animal Rehoming - Donate to Animals - Wood Green, The Animals Charity nearish you that might be able to help?

Although I'd definately recommend Ceretrea if you can them to her, she is Southampton so a bit further down!
