Re: Bin cages

I don't know much about bin cages, but didn't want to read and run.

It will be helpful to know how many chinese hammies you are planning on putting in there. Are they girls? I know most male hamsters fight and assume this is true of Chinese too, but feel free to correct me!

It may be useful to look at the sizes of existing hamster cages that are on the market and judge from there.

For example, the Savic Cambridge is 62 x 36 x 43 cm. Your proposed sizes are bigger in all but hight, and hamsters don't need as much hight as say mice or rats, so I would have thought it would be ok.

Re: Bin cages

I got put off of bin cages after putting 3 of my gerbils in one. They chewed a huge hole in the back but I don't think chinese hammies would chew like gerbils?

Re: Bin cages

Its either going to be for 1 male chinese hamster , or 2 depending on which ones I swap around :P

I don't think they chew like gerbils , but I'm not entirely sure , someone will probably need to correct me !

My sister had two brothers and they started squabbling as they matured and one day she came downstairs to one of them eating the other. She had noticed them squabbling and one of them attacking the other ones testicles but didn't think to separate them.

You need to have more faith in yourself. If you've had your females fight but males not the chances are you're right. You learn from experience so...

Fair enough. I had robo boys together and they fought, and I have four robo girls in a huge tank and they picked on the smallest. I took her out and rehomed her with a friend and they were fine just the three of them.

At the end of the day I think it just depend on the individual. You can put them together but have a spare cage handy in case they fight. Just like people really
