Re: Treats you can make for your rats?

any treat you can peg to the cage is good, i used to make mine work for their treats by putting it in a really hard to get to place on the top of the cage lol

best to use treats that won't snap the peg shut if it's nibbled out though, so you may want to use a ribbon or bit of string to put in the peg rather than the treat or squash the treat.

such as dried nana, carrot sticks, veg peelings/cutoffs etc.

or wrap the treat in paper and hang it about the cage.

if your hoard is particulary big, a small nana still in its skin, watch and see how long and who figures out what it is and how to get in lol.

or a boiled egg with the shell still on. took our first alpha rat a minute to figure it out.. none of the others had a clue and had given up! she rolled it around had a good sniff and touchy-feel then roll/shoved it really hard against the edge of the cage bottom causing a crack then rolled it back around to start nibbling the round the crack. genius.

oooh might have to try them. for my boys have a shoe box filled with balls of scrunched up newspaper and then hid some small treats in there and let them go rooting for the treats. they love it and so much fun watching them diving about in there

Re: Treats you can make for your rats?

i make little pinyatas filled with their fave foods like plain buscuit baby pudding honey malt paste tuna sweetcorn ham chicken peas even fruit then put it in cardboard egg boxes or mini cereal boxes and hang up

i also make bread i make a basic low fat low salt dough then add nuts fruit like bannana raisins you can add almost anything your ratties like sweet or savoury.

my freind once made some oat bars for them cant remember the recipie but it was oats seeds fruit and some vegie ones too

i also get them cheap plastic balls that have holes in like what you get in kids garden games and spread stuff like honey or marmite on the inside and they love trying to lick it out.

their favourate is fruit kebabs use string or wooden sticks or dried spaghetti works well and its edible thread fruit or veg or whatever they enjoy and freeze but have to watch them with the wooden sticks
