Unhappy Ill Hamster

Hi guys,

I am really worried about my poor little fella and wanted your advice please. On saturday he woke up and had an eye infection in his right eye with some bedding stuck in it. I cleaned it with salted water. Later that day I checked on him and both eyes were stucked together with 'gunk' and so again i cleaned then with salted water and opened them.
Yesterday his left eye was worse and a load of pus type stuff came out but the right didnt look as bad.
Today however the right eye is bulging out and i dont think he can close it! :-( He is also not eating his food, but is still drinking. I have put all his fav foods in the cage but he isn't interested.
I was thinking though that maybe he will start eating again when the eye infection clears up?!!?
I have since been reading about it and it seems quite a common problem for hamsters to get eye problems and bulging eyes, although am sad to read he may loose the eye?!
Does anyone have any advice!? I plan on keeping cleaning it and hopefully it will get better, if it doesnt though a trip to the vets is probably needed?!
I'd really appreciate any advice.
Thanks

Re: Ill Hamster

Sandy started off with an eye infection. The infection travelled though and she died a few weeks later. The vet will be able to give you antibiotics for the eye though. I had to bathe Sandy's eyes 3 times a day, give her eye drops, antibiotics by syringe and carry her over to her water and food. Kept her going for a while, but she wasn't strong enough to pull through.
