Exercise Wheel Or Not (RATS)

Hi lovelies,
I have three rats. Reggie three years old, Belle and Delilah 8 weeks old.
I read on the net that rats dont usually use exercise wheels because they know they arent getting anywhere. My question is whats your experience with this? do your rats love there wheel or hate it? just dont use it, etc.
Id really love to hear your opinions. thankyou!! x x

Re: Exercise Wheel Or Not (RATS)

I've never bothered, years ago we had a wheel but no one ever used it, I've heard some rats do though I'd be very selective about the size & type of wheel if you do decide to get one, Silent Spinners & Wodent Wheels in the biggest sizes are supposed to be OK
You say you have an elderly boy & 2 baby girls, is your lad neutered as he could be capable of getting both girls pregnant

Re: Exercise Wheel Or Not (RATS)

I was looking at a silent spinner 12" they are fairly expensive but as they will be safe for my ratties im prepared to pay abit more.
The rats are seperate so there wont be any rat babies.
Thanks for your input

Did you have to help them along to use it for example put them on it and push it slowly etc. or did they just have a natural instinct to do it?
Which wheel did you purchase?
thankyou for your help
Kindest regards Kayleigh x x

Re: Exercise Wheel Or Not (RATS)

I would give them the option. Some of my boys and all my girls use their wheel. My best wheel runner (also called Reggie!) is 26 months old! He goes like the clappers!

Could you maybe get a friend for your male rat? They're such sociable little critters, they really shouldn't be alone.

Edit: The wheel I have is a silent spinner. I would only recommend a silent spinner or a wodent wheel.

Mine at first were scared of the wheel.. the babies used it for a couple of weeks.. then it was used to chew.. so I took it out..

Hello there,
thankyou for your help,
I would be over the moon to introduce another male to my reggie.
I would like to ask a few questions to more experienced owners. Reggie had ronnie as a companion and ronnie sadly had to be put to sleep due to a tumour . Which age rat would you put in with reggie? as i thought maybe a younger rat may be abit too playful. Would they fight as reggie may be territorial?
Kindest regards x x

Thankyou for the picture she is adorable!! I was thinking if i get them a wheel from a youngish age of 8 weeks maybe they will grow to use it and love it.
I want them to get as much exercise as they can and be really healthy and happy.
