thankyou for your help,
I would be over the moon to introduce another male to my reggie.
I would like to ask a few questions to more experienced owners. Reggie had ronnie as a companion and ronnie sadly had to be put to sleep due to a tumour . Which age rat would you put in with reggie? as i thought maybe a younger rat may be abit too playful. Would they fight as reggie may be territorial?
Kindest regards x x
You say he's 3? That's a very good age, bless him
If he has no health issues would you consider getting a couple of younger lads to keep him company? A pair of youngsters will play with each other but also provide him with ratty company

Form personal experience Age doesn't really matter, it's the rats temperament that's key.
You could:
1.: Find a breeder (oppose to a pet shop) that knows each Rat's personality... and get a calm submissive Rat
(i have 2 rats one is super playful there other is a moody biatccch at times and likes to be lazy...)

With males ofc you do have the ''Rawr look at me, I'm a big boy now!'' stage which may be an issue with your older Rat as he may not tolerate his 'teenager' attitude...

2.: If it was me, I'd try and find a rat that's gone through the 'big boy' stage, Some rescue shelters have fantastic Ratties looking for a home!

Re: Exercise Wheel Or Not (RATS)

I bought flying saucers for all of mine and it seems the males are too lazy to bother but my girls use it.

Re: Exercise Wheel Or Not (RATS)

I have a silent spinner! I was incredibly lucky as some gave me a free one which was brand new I still don't know how to thank them properly...

Anyway out of my three girls two use it and love it! Out of my boys I have one who is mad for it, one who sometimes has the urge to run, and another who thinks its another bed!

Mine are all different ages and none of them have ever seen a wheel before, so I would say it's worth having one

(and my lovlies havent chewed it, bless them )

Re: Exercise Wheel Or Not (RATS)

Thats good to know hun, lucky you for getting a free one :O they are a little on the expensive side.
I have decided to get one im sure my girls will use it they are 8 weeks old so hopefully they can channel some of there hyper active behaviour on the wheel hehe.
